Russian President Vladimir Putin offered U.S. President Donald Trump multiple arms control measures at the recent summit of the two leaders in Helsinki, Finland.

Russian state news agency TASS reported on a leaked document to Politico which showed Putin offered a number of particular initiatives on arms control, including prohibiting weapons in space.

The Hi-Tech Traditionalist: The First American Coup Is Still Ongoing

According to the report, the Russian document with the header “Dialogue on the Issue of Arms Control” proposes “a five-year extension for the so-called New START Treaty limiting nuclear arms.”

“The Russian document outlines a host of areas where the two countries could work together to reduce nuclear dangers and rebuild some of their lost trust.”

“The new details provide evidence that Putin remains interested in maintaining the two nations’ traditional cooperation on nuclear weapons despite all their other friction, said one participant in recent unofficial arms control talks in Moscow,” according to the paper, wrote TASS.

The memo also addresses mounting tensions in Eastern Europe, suggesting that Washington and Moscow should “take measures in order to prevent incidents while conducting military activities in Europe, as well as to increase trust and transparency in the military sphere.”

The document calls on the two sides to “initiate expert consultations to identify destabilizing kinds of arms, to take them into account in the arms control mechanism.”

The “strategic stability” consultations should be led by deputy secretary of state and deputy minister of foreign affairs, who could discuss some “thorny” issues, including Syria, the document says. It also recommends launching the 2+2 dialogue between the US Secretaries of State and Defense and their Russian counterparts.

Russia Warns Accepting Georgia Into NATO Could Lead To ‘Terrible Conflict’

The Western legacy media has made a bid deal about Trump’s supposed ‘appeasement’ of Moscow but it seems the discussions actually produced concrete and productive talks that could improve world peace over the near term. Trump mentioned as much after the meeting during the press conference. Perhaps Trump’s soft tone towards President Putin had to do with the fact that Putin had just offered serious arms control initiatives to POTUS.

Any professional reporter would have looked into this possibility but the American press was more interested in slamming Trump over his supposed ‘weak behavior’.

The question then becomes – is the media interested in peace or war. It seems to be the latter.

Could the truth now actually be that Putin is now worried about Trump’s military buildup and is ready to offer concessions? The media is not interested in that possibility. Only time will tell.
