Russia Says Castro Wanted No Memorials

Russian news agency TASS quotes Cuba’s president Raul Castro as saying that his late brother and erstwhile Cuban dictator Fidel asked that no landmarks in Cuba be named after him and no statues erected in his honor.

Raul Castro mentioned that this was in line with Fidel’s long-standing opposition to any signs of cult of personality and promised that the Cuban National Assembly will take up the necessary legislation to ensure that Fidel’s wishes are honored when it meets for its new session early next year.
