Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in a recent interview that attempts to weaken Iran have led more nations, including those in the Middle East, to consider acquiring nuclear weapons.Speaking to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, Medvedev noted that discussions of nuclear weapons had previously been largely hypothetical or abstract for many countries.
“After what happened, many countries — including in the Middle East — began considering acquiring them,” he said.
“The attempt to weaken Iran has pushed more countries toward nuclear weapons, because only they can prevent a global conflict. That is the price of the reckless policy of the United States.”
Medvedev argued that the formal pretext for military actions in the region was Iran’s nuclear program, while stating that concrete evidence of a military dimension had not been presented.
In the same interview, Medvedev also addressed broader attitudes in international relations. He said Western countries continue to approach other states with a colonial mindset: “We are superior, we are strong, we are developed, and you must obey.”
He added that no world leader has the right to assume the role of the Almighty or the Lord God.
Medvedev emphasized the need for a multipolar world order and highlighted cooperation through frameworks such as the SCO and BRICS as steps toward moving away from what he described as neocolonial relations. The comments came amid ongoing discussions of regional security and the consequences of recent developments involving Iran.
