Bomb Scares In Moscow, St Petersburg – Russia Strikes Lviv, Missile Enters Polish Airspace

On 24 March 2024, a passenger at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO/UUEE) claimed she had a bomb in her bag, leading to the delay of a flight to Yerevan in Armenia, reported Inkerman. Also on 24 March 2024, the London shopping centre in the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg was evacuated over a bomb threat.

  • During the early morning hours around 0500 hours local time, Russia launched missiles at various locations in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv and Lviv.
  • In Lviv, near the Polish border, around 20 missiles and 7 Shahed-type drones had been launched, with explosions recorded in Stryi, 65 km south of the city of Lviv. A fire broke out at an energy installation due to the strikes.
  • One Russian missile briefly entered Polish airspace, remaining for around 39 seconds above the village of Oserdow in Lublin province.  A similar incident occurred on 29 December 2023, and in November 2023, two Poles were killed when a suspected Ukrainian missile fell on the Polish village of Przewodow. Poland is a NATO member.
  • In Kyiv, authorities say around a dozen missiles were shot down, and that missile fragments fell in the Desnianskyi district, northeastern Kyiv. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
  • Polish and allied military aircraft were activated in response to patrol the south-east of Poland.
  • According to the Polish armed forces, necessary procedures to protect the safety of Polish airspace were launched. They are monitoring the situation.
  • As a NATO member, any Russian attack near the Poland – Ukraine border is likely to cause tensions to rise.
