Russians recognize and love literary talent no matter the geographic location. There is a story of a Western writer traveling by bus to Siberia to visit gulags in the forest from the Stalin era. Upon stopping outside one of the old camps, the writer disembarked the bus (which was full of locals) to visit the camp. While he was gone, the heater went out on the bus and the passengers were freezing. However, no one wanted to tell the writer because, well he was a writer, and you don’t interrupt writers, all Russians know that.

Upon the death of the famous espionage writer John le Carre, Russian state media took the time to acknowledge his death.

Famous British writer, author of espionage novels John le Carre has died at the age of 89, according to his literary agency the Curtis Brown Group, representing the interests of the writer, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
