Russians in the Russian Far East demonstrated against the handing over of land seized from Japan during WWII, in a bid to formally end the conflict. The status of the Kuril Island chain seized from Japan by Russian during the ‘Great Patriotic War’ is a major sticking point to signing a peace treaty between the two former belligerents.
