Tens Of Thousands In Romanian Capital Streets On 13th Day Of Protest

Romanian citizens jammed the streets of the capital city Bucharest on the 13th day of civil unrest over the government’s agenda of reducing penalties for corrupt behavior. Since the country’s premier, Premier Sorin Grindeanu, removed the proposed laws from consideration, the protests have not subsided. Demonstrators are now demanding the resignation of the current government in power, saying they have lost the people’s trust.

Protesters today formed a display of the Romanian flag in Victory Square with lights in the evening. Thousands also protested in Cluj, Sibiu, Iasi, and Timisoara.

These are the biggest demonstrations since the end of the communist regime in 1989 which saw the former dictator dragged through the streets along with his wife. Romanians are worried the current government will bring back the corruption of the past.
