Ukrainian MP Detonates Grenade In Council Meeting

A local official detonated a grenade in a council meeting recently in Ukraine. It is reported he was killed. Dozens were injured.

From Inkerman:

  • Local reports indicate that at least twenty-six people have been injured after a village councillor detonated several hand grenades during a council meeting in Keretsky, Zakarpattia Oblast during the morning hours of 15 December 2023.
  • Councillors had been holding discussions regarding the council’s 2024 budget, when a man wearing a dark jacket threw multiple grenades from his jacket pocket.
  • Reportedly, six of the councillors have been hospitalised with serious injuries following the attack.
  • Whilst the attacker’s motive remains unclear as of writing, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has announced their intention to investigate the incident as a “terrorist attack”.
  • Residents in Keretsky are advised to exercise caution as local authorities conduct ongoing anti-terrorism investigations.
