While Ukraine acknowledges Kosovo for its support over the crisis with Russia, recognition is not on the table for now, according to the country’s ambassador to Albania, Volodymyr Shkurov.

In an interview given to Euronews, Shkurov, who has recently assumed his position, said, “we are aware of the support expressed by Kosovo officials…Ukraine is still in the study phase of the issue of recognition of Kosovo. At present, Ukraine has not made a final decision.”

He explained that the situation is complicated by the general political situation, including those in Crimea.

“I can say that these are not the same topic, but at the general political level, they are also perceived emotionally. Therefore, I think that against the background of the current escalation and political climate in Ukraine, the issue of Kosovo will be considered later.

He added that it is not on the agenda because researchers and those making decisions need to do their work, thus making it easier to conclude.

Turning to Albania, he spoke of the “great discovery” made when arriving in Albania.

“When I left for Albania, I had general reservations as we had little information about Albania. But it was a great discovery, not only for me but for the embassy staff as a whole. It feels good here. The people are friendly and welcoming.”

Shkurov added that he sees considerable potential for developing Ukraine’s relations with Albania.

“Ukrainian tourists have already discovered Albania…In terms of perspectives opportunities, I do not say that they are limitless, but they are very large.”

In terms of ongoing cooperation with Albania, he said that increasing political dialogue is on the agenda. IN addition, economic-trade relations will be a focus, ‘as there are great prospects for this in agriculture, transport and energy.”

Shkurov added, “we have a great opportunity for cultural-humanitarian work, the diplomacy of peoples.”

On the rising tensions with Russia along Ukraine’s eastern flank, the ambassador spoke of a wish to avoid conflict and limit damages to the economy.

“All these conversations about the inevitability of war can affect the general standard of living of the people, not only psychologically, but economically. Therefore, one of the points of activity of the government is to strengthen the financial and economic stability of Ukraine and to work to ensure the population does not panic.”

“We hope in the intelligence and skills of diplomatic work and that this will bring a proper result,” he added.
