US State Department Applauds Expulsion of Iranian Diplomats By Albania

The US State Department has applauded the Albanian government’s decision to expel two more Iranian diplomats from the country.

Its spokesperson Morgan Ortagus tweeted today:

“We commend the government of Albania’s decision to expel two of Iran’s so-called diplomats. The Iranian regime continues to use its diplomatic facilities in Europe and elsewhere as cover to plot terrorist attacks, as well as to threaten and spy on Iranians living abroad.”

Senator Marc Rubio also tweeted about the decision, adding that the diplomats had been “in direct contact” with slain Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

Albania has expelled 4 Iranian diplomats since it hosted about 3,000 members of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (Mojahedin-e Khalq) at the request of the US in 2016. The MEK advocates overthrowing the Tehran regime, and are considered a terrorist organization by Iran and Iraq.
