The Kremlin declared today that US President Donald Trump invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to a summit at The White House at a yet underdetermined date, when Trump called Putin to congratulate him on his election to a fourth term.
“If everything goes well, I hope that the Americans will not give up their proposal to discuss the possibility of holding the summit.” When our presidents talked on the phone, Trump offered to hold the first meeting in Washington, in the White House, “Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov said today at a press briefing, reported RIA Novoste.
“After this conversation, which was of constructive business nature, many issues were touched upon, after which there was another failure in our bilateral relations – the expulsion of sixty diplomats, the closure of the Consulate General.” This step was adequately mirrored by the Russian side, “Ushakov stressed.
President Trump has played a two-pronged approach when dealing with the Russian state. In public, Trump has proposed many times to meet with Putin, and declared his wish to have a good relationship with Russia. In private however, the United States has confronted Russia at every turn, launching cruise missiles into a Russian air base in Syria, and killing hundreds of Russian mercenaries that attacked a US position in Syria. In addition, Trump has sent weapons to Ukraine, levied sanctions, and expelled many Russian diplomats.
You could call it the art of the deal.
