Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko wants additional sanctions against the Russian Federation by the West. He based this demand off the recent authorization by Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept travel, and other official documents, from the pro-Russian separatists in East Ukraine. The Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic are now able to use LPR, and DPR, passports to enter Russia. Poroshenko says this development is against the Minsk agreements.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday denounced Moscow’s action as contradicting the 2015 peace agreement. Speaking at a meeting with EU Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Commissioner Christos Stylianides, Poroshenko called for “resolute action, up to strengthening sanctions,” reports AP.
For its part, Russia said the move was done fro ‘humanitarian’ reasons and had nothing to do with recognizing the rebels, which are supported by Moscow with money and arms.
The Ukrainian situation remains a signature issue between the West and Russia as Putin and Trump attempt to find common ground and improve relations.
