LinkedIn Application Officially Blocked In Russia

In Russia people are no longer able to download the LinkedIn app from the App Store and Google Play.

Russian authorities have requested to block the application on the territory of Russia a few weeks after Roskomnadzor (The Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications) included LinkedIn in the list of the companies that have violated the law regarding personal data storage on the territory of Russia.

An Apple representative confirmed the company was asked to remove the LinkedIn application from the store about a month ago. As the source noted, the same demands were made by the Chinese authorities; they also demanded to block the app.

LinkedIn is a social network designed for job seekers and for exchanging business contacts. It records more than 400 million people. In Russia, hundreds of companies used the service, including Sberbank of Russia (State-owned Russian banking and financial services company), who noted that this decision will cause “significant” challenges for the company.
