Zelensky Advisor Shock Admission: Goal Is For Russia To ‘Cease To Exist As A Country’
As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s 5-year term is set to end in 2024, he told BBC last week that there will not be a Ukrainian presidential election in 2024 if the country is still under martial law due to Russia’s war in the country. The Ukrainian leader said that both the 2024 presidential election and the parliamentary elections, which are supposed to be held this October, will be extended indefinitely.
According to a U.S. military official, Ukrainian forces have lost more than 15 percent of the Bradley fighting vehicles the U.S. has provided to Kyiv. Many of the vehicles have been destroyed as Ukraine began its counteroffensive about three weeks ago amid heavy minefields laid by Russian troops and other difficult resistance.
On Tuesday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that Wagner head, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had arrived in Belarus 3 days after he led an armed rebellion against Russia’s defense ministry.
In new remarks on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an update on the status of Moscow’s hypersonic and nuclear arsenal saying, “About half of the units of Russia’s Strategic Missile Force have been equipped with the latest Yars missile systems and are being rearmed with modern Avangard warheads.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday met with African leaders in St. Petersburg and displayed a document that he said was a draft treaty on Ukrainian neutrality that was drawn up during negotiations in Istanbul in March 2022.
Despite his ongoing war with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has continued to allow Kyiv to export grain through the Black Sea via the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which Putin has allowed to be extended previously. However, in remarks last week his patience with the deal appeared to be dwindling as he told journalists, “Probably, for the guys who are fighting, it’s not clear why we are letting the grain through. I understand.” As the July 17 expiration date for the current extension approaches though, Putin’s patience appears to have run out.
In an NBC News interview that was published Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky targeted former President Donald Trump and attacked his vow to negotiate an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Zelensky argued that if Russia is not defeated in Ukraine, then Moscow will attack or invade another NATO member state and force the U.S. and the alliance into a direct conflict with Russia.
The Biden administration made it clear in May that Washington would not prevent its allies from providing F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv, which would be a move widely seen as highly escalatory and one that could lead to direct conflict between NATO and Russia. However, it has also been largely understood that training Ukrainian pilots to fly Western combat aircraft could take at least a year, if not longer.
