The explosion occurred at 08:52 Moscow time near an entrance to the FSB directorate. “According to preliminary information, a 17-year-old local was killed, who had brought a home-made explosive device into the building. The teenager was identified,” the Investigative Committee reported. Three FSB directorate employees were injured in the explosion. Investigators and forensic specialists from the Investigative Committee are working on the site. Witnesses are being questioned, and the necessary expert investigations were commissioned. “A criminal case was launched under Section 205 ‘Terror attack’ and Part 1 Section 222 ‘Illegal wearing of munitions’ of the Russian Criminal Code based on the explosion in the building in Arkhangelsk,” the Investigative Committee said in the report.

An explosion outside the FSB (formerly KGB) office in Arkhangelsk, Russia has left one dead. Information on the possible terror attack is scarce. Arkhangelsk is a northern city in the Russian Federation named after the Archangel Michael. Legend has it Michael’s battle against the devil took place where the city stands and he watches over the area in case of the devil’s return. It was a thriving mercantile port until the earl 1700s, serving all of Russia for access to the sea.

The person killed is reported to not be a member of the FSB, reported The Moscow Times. A spokesperson for the National Anti-Terrorist Committee confirmed to the news agency that the explosion had happened at the entrance, the Times added.
There is no cause yet announced but it seems likely a terror attack.
