Zeman Wins Second Term

Czech President Milos Zeman has been elected to a second term. “In the run-off against strongly pro-European Union academic Jiri Drahos, Zeman scored 51.4 percent to 48.6 percent for his challenger,” reported Reuters.

“The vote showed Czech voters’ concerns over security despite a period of fast economic growth and rising wages. Immigration was a key issue, more than two years after the European Union first faced a major influx of refugees – almost none of whom ever appeared in the Czech Republic,” added Reuters.

The re-election of Zeman is significant as he is a supporter of newly-election Prime Minister Andrej Babis who has been unable to form a government due to concerns over past corruption charges.

Zeeman is staunchly against massive Islamic immigration and has made many comments regarding the security of the Czech people.
