New Albanian Government Rama 2 Just Appointed

Today, in front of the Socialist Party Assembly, Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania on a second mandate, introduced his new government.

He maintained its main feature will be faithfulness to the people. He reiterated that in focus will be the proceeding reforms towards Albanian integration in EU. He also stressed the need for an increase in organization and discipline.

He considers small governmemt as a must for the country, hence the change in its structure.

The new socialist government is 50% women.

There are a few new names, but the biggest surprise is the Vice-Prime Minister, Senida Mesi, a new socialist MP from Shkodra region, Northern Albania, a banking economist, who has hold no important political or functional posts in the Socialist Party until now.

The second surprise name is Etilda Gjonaj, a lawyer from Albanian Commitee of Helsinki, lately vice-minister of Justice, now appointed as Minister of Justice, at a time when justice reform through Vetting is key issue for the country.




Third surprise is again a female minster, Sonila Qato, former Head of the Ownership Agency, now State Minster for Entrepreneurship.

The second State Minister, for the Diaspora, is a well-known name in politics, Pandeli Majko, former prime minister of Albania during the Kosovo war.

There are four unchanged ministers, holding the same posts even during the last legislation, precisely, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, that of Education and Sport, Lindita Nikolla, Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro and that of Energy & Infrastructure, Damjan Gjiknuri.

Three other ministers, appointed three months before the elections, will stillhold the posts at the head of Ministry of Health, Ogerta Manastirliy, Internal Affairs, Fatmir Xhafa and of Tourism, Blendi Klosi, former minister of Labour and social welfare.

The former vice-Prime minister, Niko Peleshi, will be at the head of Minstry of Agriculture.
Again, a woman will direct the Ministry of Defence, Olta Xhacka, socialist MP for years.

The biggest ministry will be that of Economy, Finance and Social Welfare, led by the same minister of former legislation, Arben Ahmetaj.

Drug Trafficking Rages In Albania

Another surprise is the elimination of the Ministry of Integration, which is meant to be a structure within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Such news has caused disagreement, especially from current opposition Socialist Movement for Integration, as the main priority for Albania today is its integration in EU.




Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha from the Democratic Party continued to throw accussations towards the new socialst government Rama 2, calling it the most incriminated since the communist dictatorship, involved in crime and theft.

Rama mentioned none of ministers will be immune from termination. The confidence in them will be conditioned, due to their performance.
