Vladimir Putin Joins 750,000 For Immortal Regiment In Moscow

The Immortal Regiment is an annual event in many cities across the world to celebrate the end of World War II, or the Great Patriotic War as it is called in the former Soviet Union. This year, the parade of heroes reached a record 750,000 in Moscow alone as thousands marched with pictures of their relatives killed in the fight against the Nazi war machine. 27 million Soviet citizens were killed in the war.

“The ‘Immortal Regiment’ march has already brought together 750,000 participants. People are continuing to join the procession,” the police said, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

The custom started a decade ago in Siberia and now has gone global. There was even an Immortal Regiment event in Washington, D.C. this year.
