KYIV – In this article we would like to explore the reasons and the origins for the current on-going war with Russia.

What happened?

We would like to start with several hypothesis for this war that seem to us have not been described by political observers of various size and colors.

  1. The current war is not only a geopolitical tournament for the area, it’s a war that’s based on vulgar reasons of access to cashflow channels from natural resources.
  2. The current war is based on a combination of political, geopolitical, economic, personal reasons of higher level that are not just money.

Let’s begin with how the reasons for the war are viewed and declared in Ukraine. The war is on the territory of Ukraine. Russia occupied approximately 20% of Ukraine’s territory from 2014. Thus, the occupant is Russia, the aggressor is Russia. Let’s explore the views and the reasons for the war from the eyes of the government of Ukraine and the average citizen of Ukraine (peresichniy hromadianyn, as they call this resident in Ukraine).

Please, pay attention of the conflicting views on the reasons and the origins. We tried to keep the voices and the views expressed as original as possible.

From the view of citizen-resident (without particular order, what comes first to the mind is stated first). This list includes politically-correct and acceptable expressions of average Ukrainians and “expressions that are not-voiced openly in the public”, but easily expressed in private conversations.

  1. “Putin is huylo (dickhead), and he is the only and the main reason, all other reasons are derivative and subordinate”
  2. “Russia is an empire state, always wanted to occupy Ukraine, it’s just the way things are”
  3. “Ukraine was a part of the Russian Empire, thus, they want Ukraine back”
  4. “They need to back off NATO from the borders”
  5. “Poroshenko made a treaty with Putin-huylo and sold part of Ukraine”
  6. “Zelensky insulted Putin for so many years, it’s a matter of personal revenge for Putin on Zelensky”
  7. “The government of Ukraine was weak and sold us to Putin”
  8. “The government of Ukraine failed to deter Russia, thus, Russia occupied Ukraine”
  9. “Russia’s government understood how weak and stupid is the government of Ukraine is and decided to occupy the country governed by the imbecile politicians and the clowns”
  10. “The leftist ultra-nationalist and oligarch-sponsored forces occupied the Ukrainian government, seized some Russian assets on the territory of Ukraine, thus, Russian bandits decided to strike back to get even more out of Ukraine”
  11. “The left-sided, and brain-washed radicals and bandits from Western Ukraine, sponsored from the Western countries, occupied the parliament, the ministries of Ukraine, and, led the country to it’s weak form, thus, allowing Putin and FSB to analyze the state of affairs and see that there is a possibility to strike”
  12. “Ukraine was never an independent state, not even from the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991”
  13. “KGB, now FSB decided to take Ukraine as a territory that was a part of it’s influence and temporarily went out of control after the coup of the Revolution of Dignity (or not-so-dignity, depending on what you know)”
  14. “Ultra-nationalistic forces from the West and the Western Ukraine control the government of Ukraine. They could not, didn’t even have a chance to negotiate with Russia. They spent 8 years to prepare for the war. They wanted this war.”
  15. “We wanted democracy and independence from Russia. Russia wants to control us, our government and our resources.”
  16. “Yanukovich sold us to Russia for gas. We don’t need gas from Russia. We do not need oligarchs from Russia doing busines in our country.”

From the view of politicians, current or former (retired) state officials of Ukrainian government (without particular order, what comes first to the mind is stated first). This list includes politically-correct and acceptable expressions of politicians and “expressions that are not-voiced openly in the public”, but easily expressed in private conversations. We will not provide the sources of those expressions and the names of the people who voiced them – if you want you can watch the thousands of videos with Ukrainian politicians in your own spare time. We provide you the samples of the expressions and declarations.

  16. “Yanukovich sold us to Russia for gas. We don’t need gas from Russia. We do not need oligarchs from Russia doing busines in our country.”
  17. “There are too many oligarchs that want money from the government, that has weakened the government, there are no real statesmen who were able to build and control the government, thus, Russia’s FSB analysts’ conclusion was, the government is too fragmented to decide anything, and, thus, there is a strong chance to occupy Ukraine without too much resources required”.

From the view of citizen-resident (without particular order, what comes first to the mind is stated first).

From the view of politicians, current or former (retired) state officials of Russian government (without particular order, what comes first to the mind is stated first).

This list includes politically-correct and acceptable expressions of politicians and “expressions that are not-voiced openly in the public”, but easily expressed in private conversations. We will not provide the sources of those expressions and the names of the people who voiced them – if you want you watch the thousands of videos with Russian politicians in your own spare time. We provide you the samples of the expressions and declarations.

The list is a collection of declarations and expressions voiced by Russian politicians, former statesmen, military generals, etc. This list doesn’t not include our views. You will see that some of the views and expressions are opposing to each other. You judge yourself. Some of the declarations are the reasons, some are just opinions of Russian politicians.

  1. “Well, the Ukrainian-nazi-based current government didn’t keep any promise with Russia”
  2. “It was too complicated to negotiate anything with former or current Ukrainian politicians”
  3. “Non-negotiable…”
  4. “The West prepared left and right radicals for the government of Ukraine”
  5. “Ukraine is a puppet of the West to break the war on Russian borders”
  6. “NATO tricked Ukraine, the West tricked Ukraine into the war with Russia.”
  7. “Ukraine’s government under control of the West declared the business war on Russian businessmen in Ukraine”
  8. “It was a coup against Yanukovich, who was elected as a President without manipulation”
  9. “Poroshenko was a president that was elected with a lot of manipulation, so he is illegitimate”
  10. “Zelensky is a president that was elected with a lot of manipulation, so he is illegitimate.”

When you read and compare the views and the expressions describing the reasons and the origins of the war you will find something similar.

We will try to summarize for you. There list is not prioritized. You judge yourself.

  1. The war for the natural resources.
  2. Weak government of Ukraine. Failure of the government of Ukraine.
  3. Occupation of the government of Ukraine from the West that installed the politicians that could not negotiate properly with Russia
  4. Manipulation of Ukraine from the West
  5. Sponsorship from the West was weak, thus, Ukraine was a sacrificial lamb.
  6. Money from cities, the government, the natural resources was taken from Russian oligarchs who controlled major part of economy in Ukraine.
  7. Personal insults from various presidents of Ukraine
  8. Geopolitical reasons of country’s defense
  9. Treason of Poroshenko
  10. A) Ultra-radical nazi-flavored modern private para-military formations sponsored by the West and b) Ultra-radical nazi-flavored modern private para-military formations sponsored by Russia
  11. Oligarchs of Ukraine vs Oligarchs of Russia
  12. Spies from the West vs the spies from Russia
  13. Ultra-nationalists from both sides

Now let’s come back to 2 hypotheses stated at the beginning.

Hypotheses:

  1. The current war is not only a geopolitical tournament for the area, it’s a war that based on vulgar reasons of access to cashflow channels from natural resources.
  2. The current war is based on a combination of political, geopolitical, economic, personal reasons of higher level that are not just money.

After reading the views and expressions of residents and politicians we see there are formal and informal reasons for the war. The problem is that the informal parties behind the governments have their informal agendas and plans. We see a mixture of reasons that led to the war. This war is definitely a war for resources, cashflows, taxes, territory, licenses for gas, natural reserves. There are geopolitical reasons mixed in. There are spy games. There are personal insults involved. There are definitely puppet-masters involved in the Ukrainian government. There are definitely ultra-radical left and right political agendas involved from both sides.
