The smoldering conflict on Christian Armenia’s border with Muslim Azerbaijan continues unabated after renewed war in 2020 in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The Azeri exclave Nakhchivan, surrounded by Armenia, Turkey and Iran, is the newest flash point.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister declared today that Armenian positions fired on Azeri troops in the autonomous region.

“On April 1, starting from 22:00 to 22:20 the Armenian armed forces units from the positions in the directions of Arazdeyen settlement of Davali region and Saybali settlement of Garakilsa region using small arms periodically subjected to fire the Azerbaijan Army positions stationed in the directions of Heydarabad settlement of Sadarak region and Bichanak settlement of Shahbuz region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” the military agency said.

The truth is likely the opposite.

In turn, the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry said that Azeri troops opened fire on the Armenian positions on the border on April 1 and 2, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

It added that Azerbaijan’s statement on the purported shooting by Armenian forces in the borderline area was detached from reality.

On March 19, 2024, at a meeting with residents of the border villages of Tavush region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that if Yerevan does not fulfill Baku’s demands for the transfer of a number of border villages – exclaves of Soviet times, a war may begin, reported TASS.

The problem seems to be control of border villages which historically have been under Armenian control.

The Kremlin did not support Armenia during the 2022 flare up, which saw Armenia lose control of important regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, even though Armenia has a defense treaty with Moscow, and Russia has troops in Armenia. The Putin government declared the conflict did not threaten the territorial integrity of Armenia proper at the time.

The origin of the conflict goes back to before the Soviet Union, with the Turkish genocide of Armenian Christians.

So glad you’re paying attention to this, Todd! I’ve studied this issue for many months, and have come to the conclusion that since foreign observers, various intellectual arbitration bodies, etc have mostly found that aggression incidents are initiated BY AZERBAIJAN, NOT ARMENIA.

Furthermore, since “Occupied Artsakh” (my name for the 94% Armenian-settled Nagorno-Karabagh area that was finally starved out by Azeri siege warfare in 2023) was really Armenian, I think the Armenians should reciprocate by taking Nackchivan for itself.

Of course, Israel continues to sell arms to the Azeris, and has for many years, so the Muslims can complete the genocide of Christian Armenia begun in 1915. Pisses me off, and seems hypocritical for Israel to feel victimized by genocidal Hamas, and yet participate in the Azeri-plaanned genocide of Christian Armenians.

For shame, Israel.
