U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam and issued a joint statement on the Syrian conflict. The main points of the press release is that the two leaders agree the conflict does not have a military solution, America and Russia will keep communications open between their militaries, and will work to defeat the Islamic State in the country.
“President Trump and President Putin today, meeting on the margins of the APEC conference in Da Nang, Vietnam, confirmed their determination to defeat ISIS in Syria,” the statement reads, adding later that Trump felt he had a “good meeting with President Putin,” reported CNN.
Russia Says West Should Rebuild Syria, Not Us
“We seem to have a very good feeling for each other, a good relationship considering we don’t know each other well,” Trump said. “I think it’s a very good relationship,” said President Trump to reporters aboard Air Force One.
Russia Pressuring Allies To Join Fight In Syria
Russian state news agency TASS wrote of the statement this way, “The statement, which the presidents approved on sidelines of the APEC summit in Da Nang on Saturday, says the presidents have agreed it is necessary to ease the humanitarian suffering in Syria and called on all the UN member countries to increase within coming months their input in satisfying the humanitarian needs there.”
