Keeping Greek Identity In The Southern Caucasus Of Georgia

Greeks are one of the ethnic minorities living in Georgia. Most of them settled in the 17th and 18th centuries, moving here from Turkey after the Russian-Turkish war. Greeks living in Georgia are called also from Pontus.

In the villages of Akhalkalaki, the Greeks live next to Armenians and Georgians. The main challenge they face is a lack of jobs. In Akhalkalaki, the number of ethnic Greeks is decreasing as it is in the rest of Georgia. They are trying to keep their identity through different community projects.
