Once a soviet-era sewing factory, it now houses a massive, multifunctional venue called Fabrika. It is a place where Georgian youth usually gather to talk, drink and have fun. It’s an alternative spot for everyone, locals and tourists, a getaway from the everyday routine, regular bars and cafes. The place is designed so that everyone, even travelers, can create, share, learn or just to have a sleepover, since it is also the biggest hostel in Tbilisi.

The moment you enter Fabrika, it immediately radiates a vibe of old soviet buildings with things you would never expect there. This is because everything new added to this building is in the style of the 1970’s. Designers put their clothes on display for everybody. It has a beautiful skate shop where kids usually go to get all the edgy clothes, a place where one can buy vinyl if they desire so.
The history of the building is that back in the day everybody starting from young women and man, were sewing here for minimum wage, doing the same job every day of the week. It’s just like one of those black and white scenes from the movies, where people do something very boring all the time and the image gets disturbing at some point, since nothing happens at all. Nowadays, as opposed to the past, here you can see many colors as Georgia’s youth gathers here to party, get drunk, have fun, read, work, share, create and have some impact on their generation. Instead of sewing repeatedly they play dozens of board games spending their weekends laughing and being happy.
Every little part one might see here is a result of Georgian society, especially the youth, moving forward to new ideas instead of thinking the old way.
