At around 12:30 pm local time on Tuesday, Moldova’s Ministry of Defense received information that an unidentified ariel object, similar to a weather balloon, had entered the country’s airspace near the city of Soroca. As a result, authorities temporarily closed the country’s airspace.
According to an official statement by the Civil Aviation Authority for the Republic of Moldova, “Given the weather conditions and the impossibility of monitoring and identifying the object as well as its flight path, in order to ensure the safety and security of citizens, within the Interdepartmental Commission for Airspace Management, at 13:24, the decision was taken to close temporary airspace. After verifying the information and ensuring the absence of any danger to the safety of citizens, at the proposal of the Ministry of Defense, at 14:46 the airspace was reopened. The national authorities acted strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Specific Procedures applicable for similar situations.”
