Lithuania’s outgoing President Dalia Grybauskaite congratulated Gitanas Nausdea via telephone for winning the presidential runoff election. She also telephoned Ingrida Simonyte, his election opponent. Grybauskaite plans to meet Nauseda soon.
The new president will take office on July 12 after being sworn in an inauguration ceremony, reported The Baltic Times.
“After this night, the country faces a new political phase that, I hope, will bring a fresh impetus and confidence in the future, stability and calm to our people. I wish the new president success and strength in assuming this responsibility and leading the state forward,” declared Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas.
