EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has stated that the 10-year-long EU-facilitated and UN-supported dialogue has paved the way for the final steps toward the normalization of relations, which would open the EU path for Kosovo.
In a joint press conference after their meeting with Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, Lajcak stressed the importance of talks with Serbia for Kosovo’s future:
“I want Kosovo to follow this [dialogue] path and that can only be done through the EU [facilitation],” he said.
Hoti stated that a final agreement with Serbia is crucial not only for the two countries, but also for the stability of the wider region.
He informed the EU envoy about his government’s approach to the dialogue, which should result in a final agreement that ends all open issues.
The two will meet again after Lajcak completes his meetings with political parties in the coming two days.
On his first day of visit in Pristina, today Lajcak also met with President Hashim Thaciand Speaker of Parliament Vjosa Osmani.
Kosovo and Serbia are expected to sit in talks in Washington on June 27, before the EU-led dialogue resumes.
