The Caucasus today remember the 2008 Russo-Georgian War that left hundreds dead and changed the geopolitical situation in the region for decades. The war left two ‘frozen conflicts’ of the Soviet Union which remain unsettled.
A decade ago, war broke out between Russia and Georgia in the separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, with each side accusing the other of starting the hostilities. The short war cost hundred of lives, displaced tens of thousands, and left both territories in a state of frozen conflict, reported RFERL.
