One of the most interesting exchanges was over the conflict with Ukraine and the World Cup. When asked by a pro-Russian separatist fighter from the Donbass region of East Ukraine, where the conflict still rages, Putin commented, “I hope that there won’t be any provocations but, if it happens, I think it would have very serious consequences for Ukrainian statehood in general,” Putin said.

“Zakhar Prilepin, a Russian writer who advises rebels in the Russian-backed, separatist Donetsk region, asked Putin during a televised phone-in to comment about the possibility of Ukraine launching military action during the month-long tournament,” reported The Moscow Times.

In addition, Putin declared he saw a ‘common future’ with Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described ethnic Ukrainians and Russians as “practically one people,” which has a common past and future. “I have always regarded Ukraine as a fraternal country and consider Ukrainians and Russians to be essentially one people. We have a common past, and I am sure that, despite any tragedies today, we have a common future,” Putin said at his annual televised Q&A session, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

Putin also declared that WWIII would be the end of civilization. “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones,” said the Russian leader.

Putin also had positive words for the Russian economy, saying, “If we are to apply such categories as white, black and grey to see what zone we are in at the moment, we are moving towards the stable white zone,” Putin said, reported TASS.
