Russian President Vladimir Putin called for joint efforts against the global terrorist scourge in a statement released by the Kremlin. He also offered condolences to the British people in a telegram via British prime minister Theresa May on Sunday.

“The President of Russia expressed his confidence that the build-up of joint efforts to fight forces of terror all over the world should become the common answer on what happened,” the Kremlin said, reported Reuters.

Russia has experienced multiple terror attacks over the last decade as well with recent metro bombings in St. Petersburg as an example. Thirty percent of the Russian population practices Islam.

Moscow fought a war with Chechnya, a Muslim region, in the 1990s and Putin installed strongman Razman Kadyrov to pacify the district.
