Russian sources are reporting this morning that Turkey is in the exploratory stages of negotiations to purchase the Russian S-400 surface to air missile system. Similar negotiations have been held in 2009 and 2015 without a positive outcome. While stressing that Turkey, a NATO member, is looking at other options, the Turkish official in charge of military procurement stressed that the option to purchase the advanced Russian system was very much on the table.
The S-400 is a system designed to engage a wide spectrum of airborne platforms, both manned and unmanned, including strategic bombers and ballistic missiles.
