Russian revelers in the Lipetsk region torched a massive effigy of the designer toy character Labubu during Maslenitsa celebrations, marking an aggressive cultural pivot toward traditional heritage over global pop-culture influences. The 2026 winter-farewell festival at Argamach Archaeological Park saw the popular “monster” figure consumed by a towering inferno, continuing a controversial local tradition of burning symbols of perceived external erosion, including past effigies of Voldemort and the coronavirus.

While traditional festivities like fist fighting and pancake eating dominated the grounds, the primary spectacle featured a 25-meter-high “Dark Forest” installation inspired by the legend of Danko, symbolizing a fiery reclamation of Russian identity against what organizers described as the unconventional influence of Western and Eastern cultures.
