Russian Fighter Jet Collides With A U.S. Surveillance Drone

On Tuesday, March 14th the Pentagon released a statement about a Russian fighting jet colliding with a drone operated by the US military over the Black Sea. The impact caused the drone to crash and it has not yet been recovered.

Ned Price, spokesman for the State Department declared “We are engaging directly with the Russians, again at senior levels, to convey our strong objections to this unsafe, unprofessional intercept, which caused the downing of the unmanned U.S. aircraft.”

U.S. Air Force Gen. James B. Hecker, commander of the U.S. Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa stated the collision almost caused both aircraft to crash. The jet was damaged but was able to land safely in Crimea.

The European Command condemned Russia’s aerial behavior as “dangerous and could lead to miscalculation and unintended escalation.”

State Department officials are planning to discuss the incident with Russian authorities.
