The Ukrainian armed forces declared it used a Turkish drone for the first time to take out Separatist artillery firing on Ukrainian forces.

Tuesday’s drone strike is the first since Turkey delivered the first batch of Bayraktar TB2 to Ukraine in July, reported The Moscow Times.

The Turkish private company Baykar, which produces the armed drones, describes the TB2 model as a “medium altitude long endurance tactical unmanned aerial vehicle capable of conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and armed attack missions” with a range of up to 27 hours.

Media reports said Kiev plans to buy around 50 Bayraktar TB2 drones, a flagship model that has been used in conflicts against Russian proxies in Syria, Libya and the Nagorno-Karabakh region at the center of a decades-long dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine issued a statement on Facebook. You can watch the video here.

From 14:25 to 15:15, a battery of howitzers D-30 of the russian terrorist forces fired on the positions of the Joint Forces in the area of the settlement of Hranitne. Two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were wounded during the shelling, one of them was killed. With the start of the shelling, a ceasefire was immediately demanded through the OSCE SMM – Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, and a note was sent through diplomatic channels. However, the occupiers did not react.

In order to force the enemy to cease fire, Bayraktar was used by the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The unmanned aerial vehicle did not cross the line of contact and destroyed one gun of the crewn of the russian occupation forces with a guided bomb.

After that, the shelling of Ukrainian positions stopped.
