Russia has climbed to third in the country ranking for Chinese coronavirus infections with over 221,000 cases confirmed. Reported deaths, although low compared to other areas of the world, are climbing. Russia has been conservative compared to the United States when marking a death as due to the virus.

Non-working days in Russia will end on May 12, but it will take significant time to end restrictions in the regions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

“Starting from tomorrow, on May 12, a single period of non-working days for the entire country and all economic sectors will end,” Putin said, noting that the fight against the pandemic would continue and any backsliding should be thwarted.

It will take certain time to end the restrictions and this process won’t be quick, Putin said. The president also stressed that starting from May 12 at all stages until the epidemic is fully stopped all general sanitary requirements as well as additional preventive measures in the regions should remain in place. The ban on holding mass events in Russia due to the coronavirus pandemic will continue.

The electronic system of surveillance put in place in the capital city of Moscow has been extended until the end of May and may be extended further. Moscow has been especially hit hard by the pandemic.

All digital passes, issued earlier by Moscow authorities for working trips, which were previously in effect through May 11, have been automatically extended until May 31, Moscow’s IT department told TASS.

“All working digital passes, issued before May 11, have been automatically extended until May 31. We recommend citizens to check the validity of their pass on nedoma.mos.ru website, and make sure a correct car plate or transport card is bound to the pass,” the press service said.

Today 55 people died in the capital due to the disease, bringing the total to 1,179.
