Baltic Agriculture Percentage Increases Largest In Europe

The Baltic region of Europe saw the large, double-digit percentage increases in agriculture production last year, posting some of the largest growth in Europe.

The EU statistical office Eurostat showed on Friday that Lithuania’s agricultural output rose by 10.8 percent in 2017 compared with 2016 to 3.1 billion euros.

Estonia recorded the bloc’s highest increase in relative terms, at 18.2 percent to 0.9 billion euros. Latvia’s agricultural output grew by 8.1 percent to 1.4 billion euros.

Lithuania’s animal output increased by 17.9 percent and inseparable secondary activities were up by 12 percent. Its crop output rose by 7.3 percent, but agricultural services output fell by 2.5 percent.

The EU’s total agricultural output last year rose by 6.2 percent to 432.6 billion euros, reported The Baltic Times.
