The Central European nation of Hungary on Saturday signed into law a ban on ‘gender studies’ programs at Hungarian universities, angering ‘progressive’ forces in the country and sparking howls of media outrage.
“This is a major infringement on academic freedom and university autonomy,” said the Budapest-based Central European University (CEU) in a statement. The university was formed by Leftist Hungarian financier George Soros.

“Eliminating this programme will be a significant loss to the Hungarian scholarly community and for democratically-minded public policy,” reported AFP.
Orban’s deputy Zsolt Semjen said later gender studies “has no business (being taught) in universities,” because it is “an ideology not a science”.
Labour market demand for gender studies graduates was also “close to zero,” as “no-one wants to employ a gender-ologist,” Semjen said, added AFP.
Students will no longer be enrolled in the programs but those already started may finish their ‘degree’.
