Approximately 1,000 demonstrators took to the streets of the capital city of Chisinau in Moldova to protest a new electoral law which creates a ‘mixed electoral system.’

Representatives of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) and the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) protested the changes which they say will aid the two largest parties in power. The measures will take effect during upcoming 2018 elections. They also asked for more TV time for the opposition parties, reported RFERL.

The protesters shouted slogans like “We will not give up” and “Victory!”

“On July 20, the Moldovan parliament approved a bill introducing a mixed electoral system in the country. It was supported by Moldovan President Igor Dodon. The law came into force on July 21 after its official publication.

According to the law, the Moldovans will elect 50 lawmakers in line with the party lists, while 51 would be elected in single mandate constituencies,” reported Sputnik.
