A well-known assassin was killed yesterday in Kyiv, Ukraine by a car bomb, which exploded while he was driving in heavy traffic in the capital, injuring two others, one of them seriously. It was the 4th targeted car bomb this year in Kyiv.

Timur Makhauri, a Chechen with Georgian citizenship, had eluded multiple other attempts on his life. He had been previously arrested and eventually released several months earlier near the place he was killed, the intersection of Basseyna and Velyka Vasylkivska, a posh entertainment area.

Small Explosion At US Embassy In Kyiv
Artem Shevchenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, told RFE/RL that Makhauri ran in “criminal circles” and was “not an example of a law-abiding citizen.” He was also reported to have fought in a Ukrainian volunteer battalion against pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass region of East Ukraine.
