Russian businessman Aleksej Gubarev has filed a US lawsuit against the online media company, BuzzFeed, that published a document stating the Russian special services collected dirt on the president of the United States, Donald Trump. The lawsuit was filed in the state of Florida. Aleksej Gubarev, CEO of XBT Holding, claims that the mention of his name in the document harm his business reputation.
The publication has already brought Gubarev an apology. BuzzFeed representatives told television channel CNN that Gubarev and his company name have already been removed from the site. The published document claimed that the businessman was allegedly recruited by the Russian special services.
The document was published in January on the BuzzFeed website, and immediately caused a wide reaction. It contained allegations that Russia had dirt on US President Donald Trump. The website warned the reader that it was not possible to confirm or refute the information contained in the document, but it was quickly sold by the media.
The author of the document is believed to be a former employee of British intelligence, but his name was not cited. According to the BBC, most likely we are talking about Christopher Steele.
