In new interview for the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his opinion that the US and NATO are intentionally ratcheting up the level of tension on the Alliance’s eastern frontiers. Referring in his words to a “mythical” eastern menace, NATO is pre-positioning heavy military materiel and establishing new forward command and control posts. Additionally, military maneuvers of a provocative character are held very close to Russian border. According to Mr. Lavrov, these actions were approved at the recent NATO summit in Warsaw.
