It Was Bound To Happen: Russian Prime Minister Says US Conducting Economic Warfare Against His Country

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said today that with more sanctions on the Russian Federation, the United States would be conducting economic warfare against his country.

Russia would consider any U.S. move to curb the operations of Russian banks or their foreign currency dealings a declaration of economic war, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday, reported The Moscow Times.

Medvedev said Moscow would take economic, political or other retaliatory measures against the United States if Washington targeted Russian banks.

“I would not like to comment on talks about future sanctions, but I can say one thing: If some ban on banks’ operations or on their use of one or another currency follows, it would be possible to clearly call it a declaration of economic war,” said Medvedev.

“And it would be necessary, it would be needed to react to this war economically, politically, or, if needed, by other means. And our American friends need to understand this,” he said, speaking on a trip to the Russian Far East, wrote The Moscow Times.

US Should Enjoy Dollar Hegemony, As It’s Not Going To Last Long

Congress has pushed for further crippling sanctions which could decimate the Russian economy at a time it is limping along from mismanagement and a collapse in oil prices in 2014, although energy prices have recovered in recent years. A bill working its way now through Congress which the authors called ‘crushing sanctions’ on the Russian economy is spooking the Kremlin. The legislation mainly targets Russian banks and removes them from the dollarized, global financial system.
