Russian And American East Ukraine Envoys Meet In Minsk

American and Russian envoys met in Minsk today to disucss ‘Russian-Ukrianian’ relations, in other words, the conflict in East Ukraine that has killed over 10,000 people since it began in 2014.

New Minsk Agreement Falls Apart Already In Donbass

Belarus announced that Kurt Volker, the envoy appointed by President Donald Trump, and Vladislav Surkov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, met behind closed doors in the capital.

After the meeting, Surkov said his discussion with Volker was “useful and constructive,” Russian news agencies reported. There was no immediate comment from Volker, reported Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

After the meeting in Belarus, Volker will head to Lithuania to meet with senior government officials, then to Ukraine with Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis, to discuss “the next steps in diplomatic negotiations to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said the State Department.
