Georgian, Moldovan and Ukrainian Parliaments Call On EU Parliament For Support


The parliaments of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine called upon the EU Parliament to adopt a resolution supporting them before the Eastern Partnership summit. This was stated in a joint statement of the Parliament of Georgia, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Supreme Rada of Ukraine.

 

The legislatures of the three countries requested the European Parliament, according to Article 49 of the EU Treaty, once again call on the Council of the European Union to open the prospect of EU membership to the three associate countries.

“We, the Georgian, Moldovan and Ukrainian parliaments call on the European Parliament to adopt a resolution that will demonstrate political support and once again urge the Council of Europe to open the prospect of EU membership under the Article 49 of the EU Treaty.

We once again confirm our European aspirations and emphasize the goal of political support for each other on the path of European integration; Once again we confirm our commitment towards the values ​​of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law.

Thus, we believe that the declaration, which will be adopted at the Eastern Partnership summit in 2017, will unilaterally reflect the support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as their European choice and agenda,” reads the joint statement of three countries.

The joint address was prepared by the initiative of Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze and was signed by Kobakhidze himself, Parliament Speaker of Moldova Andrian Candu, and President of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy.

 

The Speakers called on the European Parliament to pass such a Resolution on giving a “European prospect” to the three FSU republics before the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Brussels next autumn.
