Kremlin Says Trump And Putin Will Meet In Hamburg

Today the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that no decisions have been made regarding the possible upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump at the G20 meeting in Hamburg. However, Peskov made it clear he did expect the two to get together.

“Protocol aspects are of secondary importance in this case, since it will be the first time that the two presidents will have a chance to meet,” he said. The Russian presidential spokesman pointed out that “one way or another, they [Putin and Trump] will be participating in the same event [the G20 summit – TASS] taking place in one city, so there will be a chance to meet.”

“I believe that Russia will be ready to agree to the format that will suit the United States, and vice versa,” Peskov said when asked about the format of the protocol meeting between the Russian and US leaders, reported Russian state media agency TASS.

With the Russia hysteria still raging in the United States, it has been difficult for the two men to try and forge closer relations between the two nations. Both sides seem to be in a recalibration period as the impact of the Trump presidency becomes more clear to all players involved. American leadership and foreign policy have radically changed in the five short months of the Trump presidency.
