Russia plans to deploy its latest S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to Crimea in August. This will give the Russian military the ability to control the skys above the Black Sea and seriously complicate NATO efforts to counter Russian efforts in the area.
The S-400, effective at a range of 400 kilometers, is Russia’s latest anti aircraft-missile system and is designed to destroy cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range missiles, aircraft and can also be used against ground targets.
“The new Triumph missile systems will be sent to Crimea in August, following testing,” said Yevgeny Oleinkov, a spokesman for the 31st division of the 18th missile regiment, Interfax reported.
The missiles, produced by Russia’s state-owned arms producer Almaz-Antey will be permanently installed in the Crimean city of Feodosia from August, reports the Moscow Times.
