Exhibit ‘Shaping The Water’ By Mario Airo Comes To Tirana

The Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana is hosting a new exhibition called “Shaping the Water” by artist Mario Airo and curated by Simone Ciglia. ‘Shaping the Water’ marks the artist’s first contact with ceramic techniques and represents forms of castellan ceramics to shape the natural motif of water and its flow. An environmental installation, it cites the theme of a fountain. The project is promoted by the Malvina Menegaz Foundation in Castelbasso as well as the Italian Council and the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism. Airo was born in Pavia, Italy in 1961 and studied with Luciano Fabro in Milan. He created the self-managed space of Via Lazzaro Palazzi and in 1997 he took part in the 47th Venice Biennale, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, and the Moscow and Kwangju Biennale in 2005. He has exhibited in personal and collective exhibitions in Italy, Japan and Belgium and in institutions such as GAM, Turin; Kunsthalle, Lophem; Palazzo della Triennale, Milan; National Gallery of Parma-Palazzo della Pilotta; Villa Croce Contemporary Art Museum, Genoa. His works have been presented, among others, at the Castello di Rivoli, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo and the SMAK in Ghent. Ciglia is a research doctor in contemporary art at Sapienza University in Rome. He works as an independent researcher and curator and is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino. The exhibition will run from 27 February until 31 March 2020
