Georgia’s Lisi Lake – A Refuge For Worn Down Wanderers

Georgia's Lisi Lake – A Refuge For Worn Down Wanderers

What happens when a big city like Tbilisi wears down a wanderer with new information and places? When the outside noise of cars, bars and night life makes us a little bit sick, when our eyes get tired from bright reflections of the sun coming from glossy buildings, we tend to take a day off, stay in our hotel rooms and let those four walls surrounding us bring joy and forget that running away from those same four walls was of our utmost importance. No matter how thoroughly a traveler’s soul is filled with a desire to walk and inquire in the most noisy and stacked depths of a city, it is to some degree also naturally attuned to peace and silence.

When traveling to Tbilisi, you get bombarded with so many new things that there is no room left in your mind for contemplation, which has always been a big part of travel. I’ll be bold to say that is the essence of travel. All our journeys start with contemplation. We begin to think about it, imagine places we can go and the fun we can have, somewhere where we are not. Then we budget so we don’t make any mistakes and the only thing left after that is our dream to come true. We constantly think about the importance of the places we are going, yet have no time to actually reflect when there because we have another place to go to and there is no time to think. The forced motion coming from a city will not let us stop for a second because everything is moving all the time. We then get tired and lock ourselves in our rooms to just take a deep breath and chill.

What I am going to offer here is everything a traveler seeks in his or her hotel room, but far from it. There is a place called Lisi lake in Tbilisi to which you can get to very easily. You just need to take a subway and get out on Delisi station and then wait for a bus (137) and it will then take you to this wonderful place, which is located 500 meters outside of the city. It should cost you not more than 1 Georgian Lari. Once you get there, you have many options and choices. If you have a child, you can give them full freedom to run around or play in children’s designated places, while you think about what you are enjoying so far in Tbilisi, what you want to see, etc. You have a dog? That’s not a problem. Let your doggo loose and sit there in the shades of pine trees while it is running around. Want a picnic with your beloved or just being alone? You can achieve all of it. People choose different methods to contemplate, some choose swimming, running, cycling, being alone and enjoying no sound but the wind. Almost anything your heart desires, you can get up there.

Other perks of Lisi lake is its famous reputation for special climate conditions. It is 100 meters above any other district in the city, has thermal waters and since the lake’s depth is 4 meters, you can also fish there. You can ride horses as well since 2007 when they opened a hippodrome.

As Aristotle said, contemplation involves leisure, it implicates unwariness and is the most pleasant activity one can do. If you can’t have this while you are traveling, then perhaps the journey cannot be whole. But if you visit Lisi lake, you will get all the leisurely time and pleasure which is associated with contemplation, especially related to the perception of great insights or a simple discovery of solutions to challenging mental puzzles.
