A number of readers have contacted this author to admit they had not even realized millions of Christians celebrated the Nativity of Christ on a day different from that predominant in the West. An Orthodox Russian wrote to inform that he had never understood why the Western Church was celebrating, to his mind, so early. Your insight is didactic to many. What is your prayer for Orthodoxy in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, and can you foresee a reunification in liturgical practice under any circumstances? Our prayer is that the hearts of those who are in power be softened and that people repent of their sins against the Church.
There will be no reunification as long as those who have caused these problems are in power. It might take something as drastic as a world-wide flood to change people’s hearts, leading to repentance.
