Ukraine and Russia have each released around 115 prisoners of war (POWs) in a significant exchange on Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Ukraine released 115 Russian soldiers captured during a recent offensive in the Kursk region. These soldiers are now in Belarus and will be sent to Russia for medical treatment, reported Inkerman.
Simultaneously, Russia released 115 Ukrainian servicemen, many of whom were captured in the early months of the invasion, including nearly 50 soldiers taken from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the exchange, the 55th since the invasion began in February 2022, was brokered by the United Arab Emirates.
