Russian Missiles Rain Down On Ukraine As Kremlin Retaliates For Crimea Bridge Drone Attack

Damage again to the bridge linking the Russian mainland to the Crimean Peninsula has angered the Kremlin in Moscow.

Citizens awoke to massive missile strikes in southern Ukraine on port facilities as a Russian response to the bridge developments. The bridge to Crimea has been struck multiple times.

• The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed responsibility for attacks on two port facilities in southern Ukraine in a mass retaliatory missile strike targeting eastern and southern Ukraine cities during the overnight hours of 17-18 July 2023. Moscow reportedly used high-precision sea-based missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to target a fuel storage facility in the Odesa port and an industrial site in Mykolaiv port, located near the Black Sea in southern Ukraine, reported Inkerman.
  
• The missile strikes follow an attack on the Kerch Strait Bridge during the morning hours of 17 July which damaged the road bridge linking Russian-annexed Crimea to mainland Russia. It is reported that the attack was carried out as part of a joint operation between the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and Naval Forces.

A Ukrainian security official has claimed Kyiv’s responsibility for an attack on the bridge linking the annexed Crimean peninsula to the Russian mainland – a vital supply line for Russia’s war effort in Ukraine and a personal project for President Vladimir Putin, reported CNN.

The nearly 12-mile crossing, also known as the Kerch Bridge, is the longest in Europe and holds huge strategic and symbolic importance for Moscow. Monday’s attack on the bridge was the second since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, after a fuel tanker exploded while crossing it in October.
